China has witnessed a grand rocket-up in indicators like premium scale, insurance density and insurance depth ever since the restart of domestic life insurance in 1982. And life insurance business first surpassed property insurance in 1997, maintaining the domination ever from that. However, China's life insurance business still far lags behind developed countries due to the weak basis and late start, lots of problems remaining to be solved like the low extent in market-orientation and singleness and unbalance of products. What' more, regional unbalance, which is not exactly the same but closely related to regional economy unbalance, is quite apparent, attracting more and more scholars in recent years.The author reviews related literature and theories, and conducts qualitative analysis about the influential factors. And then, quantitative analysis is brought in to work on difference of regional life insurance indicators in accordance with the latest data. In the end, the author makes use of panel data of 30 regions ranging from 1998 to 2006 to conduct regress of data of east China and mid-west of China respectively, making efforts to figure out causes of regional gaps of life insurance development and providing certain strategic suggestions.
