Biographical approach is adopted in this research to explore the role of overconfidence and luck during the innovation of the extraordinary innovator. The extraordinary innovation in this dissertation in most cases originates not from great vision, but from the foolishness (foolish tenacity) demonstrated by the entrepreneurs in their constant pursuit of success. Innovation with foolishness usually fails for the counteraction of the mainstream society. Therefore for starting entrepreneurs, luck may be what is needed for the success of extraordinary innovation (as opposed to the courage to fight against mainstream viewpoints). Probing into biographical documentation of successful extraordinary innovators, while considering tendency of overconfidence shown by a sample of business initiators, the author tries to find the effect of overconfidence and luck on the success of extraordinary innovation. In this tentative research, the author also tries to find some variables that may be valuable to extraordinary innovation, while proposing some novel ideas for the readers (e.g. luck management), in hopes of providing inspiration and thinking for individuals and corporations in their innovative actions and ideas.
