On Building, In Line With The Principles Of Sustainable Development Of A New International Economic Order

Nowadays the long-existing unfair and irrational international economic order is not fundamentally changed, though proposal of the third world for a new international economic order has made great progress. However, the changes in the balance of political forces have brought a deadlock and even a threat of gradually disappearing to the proposal. Meanwhile the unsustainable way of production and consumption constitute a real threat to world peace and development, but the sustainable development derived from environmental field has received international recognition and achieved great success. To advocate sustainable development in the field of international economic order will help to change the unfair and irrational old international order and as well as the unsustainable way of production and consumption. The research on the relationship between sustainable development and international order is of sufficient importance to the international development strategy of China and will become very favorable for China to establish its status on the world stage in the a highly volatile international situation.By the methodology of comparison, this thesis makes a comprehensive comparison between sustainable development and the new international economic order, and then put up that if the ideas of sustainable development is taken into consideration, the new international economic order will be more reasonable and perfect. As for China's status in establishing a new international economic order, this thesis, with the historical and realistic methodology, starts with China's consistent attitude to the new international economic order, and gives a brief analysis of China's present status, and then attempts to anticipate a proper role of China in the improving of international economic law and the establishing of a new international economic order.There are four chapters in this thesis. The first chapter introduces the source of the new international economic order and the evolution of sustainable development. It begins with the influence of the old international economic, moves on with the proposal and early practice of the new international economic order. When standstill appeared in the process of the new international economic order, sustainable development emerged as the times required. My thesis still provides the background information and basic connotation about sustainable development, together with the achieved progress in the international economic order. Chapter two discusses the relationship between the principle of sustainable development and the new international economic order. It elaborates the similarities between the parts from four aspects, and then raises that sustainable development can be employed in a broader field, and regarded as the development and sublimate of the new international economic order. Therefore, it is quite necessary to promote the principle of sustainable development. Chapter three tries to analyse how to improve the status of sustainable development in the new international economic order by international economic laws and how to implement it effectively. This chapter is the main part. It holds that international economic laws should fully display the restrictive capacity, and take the principles of sustainable development into consideration. However, there are many problems to implement the principles of sustainable development in the fields of international economic laws. By the analysis of these problems, the thesis gives further discussion about how to advance the implementation of the principle of sustainable development by international economic laws. Chapter four explores what the role of China should be in the new sustainable-development-favored international economic order. Firstly it examines the traditional status of China in the new international economic order, and dwells on a couple of influential arguments in the international community, and then analyses the action and status of China in the last two international conferences. At last, it makes the conclusion about how to determine China's status in establishing the new sustainable-development-favored international economic order.Some Researches about sustainable development and the new international economic order have been done, but have not done enough in-depth level. They remain at the level of general theoretical analysis. However, this thesis attempts to the relationship between sustainable development and the new international economic order in a systematic and pragmatic way. The establishing of a new international economic order will be moved on firstly by the implementation of sustainable development in the fields of international economic laws, and then by the constraining power of the international economic laws.
