Since the reform and opening up we have made tremendous achievements in commodity trading markets. The commodity trading markets play an important role in serving people and promoting economic development. Some commodity trading markets achieve the goal of internationalization under the guidance of the local government. They embarked on a sustainable development path. But there are some other commodity trading markets in which there are still a lot of problems. These commodity trading markets are hovering at low levels. They can't be achieved leapfrog development. A lot of governments face the plight that how to help the commodity trading markets to breakthrough the limitation and achieve sustainable development. How to help the governments to get rid of the plight is the goal of this study.By reference to a large number of domestic and foreign study, as well as trips to some specific commodity trading markets we discovered that the development of commodity trading market and the role of local government are inextricably linked. Facing the various problems of our country's Commodity trading market, the Government must play a role to promote the commodity trading market achieve the goal of sustainable development. Based on the both positive and negative lessons we re-build the management functions of government, The Government must take full advantage of the system of management role which includes macro-management functions, regulatory functions and service functions to promote the commodity trading markets get the sustainable development. Based on the successful experience in commodity trading market management from Western developed countries we could bring our government's function into play to find the way to promote our nation's commodity trading markets get the sustainable development.
