South Korea and China has a long history, but before the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the relationship between them is hostile. In the fifteen-year establishment of diplomatic relations which ended in 2007, the trade volume between South Korea and China increased by several times. Consequently, China has become Korea's largest trading nation and the largest investment destination while South Korea has become China's third largest trading nation. The great economic cooperation two sides have made in 15 years is really unprecedented. This essay has analyzed trade and investment relations between South Korea and China since the establishment of diplomatic relations to explore the impacts of trade and investment activities on their economies. The first part is the introduction presenting the background and framework of this article, mainly focusing on economic cooperation among South Korea and China, that is to say trade and investment relations. The second part is to examine the economic changes after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. We have selected the time period from August in 1992 to July in 2007, which is fifteen-year diplomatic relations. The third part analyzed contributions which the trade and investment between the two countries made to economic development from the point of microstructure. The exports and imports activities and their impacts on overseas market expansion and economic development between China and South Korea have been examined. The fourth part dealed with the problems the two countries has to solve to achieve a higher level of economic development, most notably the market's openess but South Korea goes farther than China in this respect. The fifth part is the conclusion. Through this analysis, we concluded that the Korean economic exchanges between the two countries should continue. To achieve win-to-win, it is necessary to strengthen the economic complementarity. As the narrowing the technolog gap y between the two countries, the competition between China and South Korea even the international market is becoming more intense. One point to notice is that as a friendly competitor, continuous technology development should be ecourged for their development. if the North and South Korea unitied in future, the South Korea's economic power will become stronger. As a result, Japan's influence will decline in the East Asian economy and China's economic weight and role will be strengthened. As China retains the world's highest foreign exchange reserves, there will be more voices to require China contribute more to East Asian economic development so the stronger economic cooperation between South Korea and China is imperative.
