Since the beginning of Industrial Revolution which performed in the 1750s,industry has become one of the most important element of economy. At the same time, industrial structure became a key issue of the economic progress of one country(or a region).Economists begun their research on this issue from William Petty and his literary work, Political Arithmetic. Most of the researchers hold the view that a relatively high-leveled and rational industrial structure will promote quick and sustainable economic growth.Chinese economists have paid more and more attention on the relationship between economic growth and industial structure evolution since the beginning of Reform and Opening-up.From different points of view, there have been a series of conclusions. However, there have been not enough or in-depth studies on the Pearl River Delta region which is an important engine of economic development in China. Meanwhile, some scholars put forward in the study that the isormorphism of industrial structure in the Pearl River Delta region is dramatically serious. Therefore, this paper will study the industial structure evolution in this region and its affect on economic growth. There are five parts of this paper:At the very beginning,I will give an account of the background of the key question, and give a short introduction of the paper's structure.Chapter 2 will summarize the former research and give a commentary about economic growth and industial structure evolution. Chapter 3 will use static analysis to show the characteristic of Pearl River Delta's industial structure and to find out whether there is an isormorphis problem in this region.Chapter 4 will use dynamic analysis to calculate both space vector angle and More Ratio to study the velocity and direction of Pearl River Delta's industial structure evolution.Chapter 5 will build econometric models and use LS(Least Squares) to make regression analysis, for calculating the pulling power of different industries. Finally,I will make a sumary of the whole paper and make a few comments about practical problems. This paper will use scientific methods to study the Pearl River Delta region in industial structure evolution, and point out its affect on economic growth. It will begin from the analysis on Pearl River Delta region's industrial structure, using static&dynamic analysis and positive&normative analysis to show the feature of industrial structure and its evolution of this region. In conclution, firstly, manufacturing and services industries are well developed in the Pearl River Delta region.Secondly, isormorphism problem is not serious in this religion.Thirdly, the propotion of tertiary industry is growing continuously. Both secondary and tertiary industries are having an internal upgrade. Finally, this paper use econometrical methods to show that tertiary industry has the most powerful effect on economic growth and give some policy recommendations. For writing the paper, I collected ralatively integral data from the "Guangdong Statistical Yearbook"(from 1989 to 2008) and Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai Statistical Yearbook. Meanwhile, the paper will calculate the quantitative effects on economic growth by the structure evolution clearly. In addition, this paper hold a different view from most researchers that isormorphism problem is not serious in Pearl River Delta.
