Purpose:Long-term complications of cervical cancer after radiotherapy, mainly radiation proctitis and cystitis, is considered to be one aspect for evaluation of the therapeutic methods and results. Currently radiation proctitis and cystitis were treated with mainly symptomatic treatment. Actively exploring effective and reliable treatment of complications, can not only enhance the treatment of this disease, but also improve the quality of life of patients. In this study, therapy with both traditional Chinese medicine Bazhen decoction and routine Western medical treatment for radiation proctitis and cystitis——the mainly conventional long-term complications of cervical cancer after radiotherapy, achieved good clinical efficacy.Material and method:The subjects were coming from gynecological cancer patients with the radiational treatment from January 2007 to December 2009 in Liaoning Province Cancer Hospital. There were 31 cases of radiation cystitis, 36 cases of radiation proctitis which were randomly divided into integrative medicine treatment group and western medicineTreatment group. The western medicine group received conventional Western treatment to stop bleeding, anti-inflammatory therapy, while the integrative medicine treatment group received orally Decoction of Bazen Decoction with combination of conventional Western medicine treatment .After 28 days, the international scoring criteria of long-term complications of radiotherapy --LENT (late effects normal tissues) SOMA (subjective, objective, management, and analytic) classification standard and integral evaluation standard were used to evaluate the efficacy of the two groups of the radiation proctitis and cystitis.Analysis the difference of efficacy between the two groups of the radiation proctitis and cystitis. Evaluation standard integration method was based on assessment: efficacy index (n) = (points before treatment-points after treatment ) / points before treatment* 100% . effective: n> 66.7%; improved: 66.7%≥n≥33.3%; invalid: n <33.3%.Results:1. Radiation cystitis: 10 cases of the TCM treatment group were effective, 4 cases were improved and 2 cases were resistant, the total effective rate was 87.5%; 4 cases of the Western medicine treatment group were effective, 6 cases were improved, 5 cases were ineffective, the total efficiency rate was 66.67%. There was statistically significant difference between two groups (P <0.05), efficacy of the TCM treatment group was better than the Western medicine treatment group.2. Radiation proctitis: 11 case of the TCM treatment group were effective ,4 cases were improved, 3 cases were ineffective, the total effective rate was 83.33%; in the Western medicine treatment group, 4 cases were markedly effective 9 cases were improved, 5 cases were ineffective, the total effective rate was 72.22%. There was statistically significant difference between two groups (P <0.05), efficacy of the TCM treatment group was better than the other group. Conclusion:To treat radiation cystitis and radiation proctitis, effects of the Integrated Traditional and Western methods were are better than simple application of western medicine.
