Object Point replacing surface is general in atmosphericenvironmental health assessment. Point (such as monitoring point) valuecan't present average level well because of the area size, shape, etc. TheGeographic Information System (GIS) spatial interpolation technology wasapplied in the assessment to make the results more rational and explicable.Method The data of 502, NOx, TSP and dust of 13 monitoringpoints in Chongqing main city area and near districts from 1998 to1999 were collected. The data of admission cases in the same yearsand places were also collected. Several GJS spatial interpolationmethods, Kriging, Contouring and Tessellation, were applied to TSP in1999 for area estimating. Area interpolation was applied to modify theresult of tessellation and combined method of tessellation and areainterpolation was formed. The estimate error was calculated tocompare the several methods. The air quality index was calculated toshow the pollution level of different district. And Logistic regressionwas applied to analyze the impact of air pollution on human health. Results The estimate error (0.009) of combined method oftessellation and area interpolation was smallest among the severalinterpolation methods. It's estimated results accorded with airdiffusion principle and spatial auto-correction. The results of pollution3division suggested that point replacing surface overestimated the airpollution level of some districts, Jiangbei, Yuzhongqu, Nanan. Theresults of Logistic regression suggested that combined method oftessellation and area interpolation highlighted the negative impact ofair pollution on human respiratory system. Conclusion Combined method of tessellation and areainterpolation is ideal for area estimating applied to a few samplingpoints.
