Experimental Studies of Normal Liver andVX2Tumors of liver and muscle in Rabbitswith Self-madeContrast AgentAbstractBackground and purpose: In recent years, with development of contrast agents and technology of ultrasonic imaging, the contrast enhancement imaging has been paid attention to by radiologists. In our country, home-made ultrasound contrast agent was not on sale. The import of ultrasound contrast agent has been stopped. Thus, it is very important for us to study with self-made contrast agent. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effect of self-made perfluorocarbon gas filled albumin microbubbles ultrasound contrast agent, display blood perfusion of tumors of liver and muscle in rabbits. Methods:The self-made contrast agent consisted of 20% albumin, 5% dextrose and a little C3F8. Eight New Zealand white rabbits, 10 rabbits with VX2 tumors in liver and 28 rabbits with VX2 tumors in muscle were examined in all studies. The contrast agent was administered through peripheral vein. Comparative researches between fundamental and second harmonic imaging were performed in normal liver and liver tumor studies, and comparative research the changes of Doppler flow imaging before and after administered contrast agent in VX2 tumors. The subjective score graded quality at 0-3 levels was estimated by two independent radiologists. Video intensity was analyzed by photoshop5.0 software. Results: 1. There was significant enhancement in liver parenchyma and in tumor delineation in the liver perfusion. All tumor nodules appeared as highly delineated hypoechonic lesions when the surrounding liver parenchyma was well-enhanced. All of the tumor nodules in 10-30mm, 75% of the nodules in 5-10mm and 37.5% of the nodules under5mm became visible during the contrast imaging. This resulted in a great improvement of tumor detection (p
