Objective: To elucidate the diagnosis value of serum and urine type III procollagen, type IV collagen and laminin concentration on the renal fibrosis. Methods: Twenty-five renal disease patient received renal biopsy were divided into three groups: no fibrosis group, glomerulosclerosis group and interstitial fibrosis group. Other eight chronic renal failure (CRF) patients without renal biopsy were also observed. We examined the expression of type III collagen, type IV collagen and laminin in the renal biopsy specimens using immunohistochemical staining and computer image analysis system. The relationship between the expression of type III collagen, type IV collagen, laminin in kidneys and the degree of glomerulosclerosis and tubulointerstitial injury was analyzed. The serum and urine type III procollagen, type IV collagen and laminin concentration in patients were measured by radioimmunoassays (RJA). The kidneys of CRF group patients were atrophy comfirmed by ultrasonic test. Results: (1) The type III collagen, type IV collagen and laminin expression in renal tissue of glomerulosclerosis group and interstitial fibrosis group was significantly higher than that of no fibrosis group (P
