Visualization in biomedical computing is becoming a hotspot in clinical medicine and computer science. It's a multi-disciplinary subject. It is an important application of computer graphics and image processing in biomedical engineering. It relates to the subjects of digital image processing, computer graphics, computer vision and some related knowledge of medical. Visualization of medical images are widely used in diagnostic, surgery planning and simulating, radiotherapy planning, and teaching in anatomy. Study on visualization of medical images has important significance on science and worthiness in practical application. The personal computer based visualization system can provide a convenience and high performance price ratio diagnosis method. The main research contents of visualization of medical images include multi-modality medical images registration, fusion, and segmentation and 3D reconstruction. In this paper we study some key technology of the visualization of the CT and MRI images of the brain tumor patients. The first step is registration and fusion of the CT and MRI images. This paper presents an single value decomposition and iterative closest points method to register the brain images. Then we segment the images use the fuzzy c means method. The fuzzy clustering methods turn out to be suitable for handling segmentation of multi-modality medical brain tumor images.Marching cube (MC) algorithm is a classical algorithm to extract iso-surface from regular volume data. We rendering the brain tumor field use the Marching cube algorithm and display it by interactivable 3D images, VRML format and AVI or mpeg format. We develop a miniature of the medical images visualization, discuss the design of the PC based medical image visualization system.Reviews of both multi-modality medical image registration and medical image visualization are given.
