The thesis consists of three parts, summaries of documents,a clinic research. The summaries consist of three parts. The first is about the research progress of the cause of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) in ten years. Because the cause of SIRS/MODS is complex, these researches appear with different grades and levels and they overlap with eath other.Nowedays the consolidate theory of SIRS/MODS hasn't formed. We introduce these snippety documents in three phase:the start phase of SIRS, the phase of SIRS and the forming phase of MODS. The second present corresponding treatment method basing on the cause in the first part.Because the cause of the syndrome hasn't been explained, the treatments haven't maken great progress. The third tell the treatment progress of SIRS/MODS with the method of the traditional Chinese medicine.lt consists of three parts:! Apllying with the explanation of herbs in western medicine to settle some problems in SIRS/MODS.2 Apllying with the pattern identification theory of Chinese medicine in some phase of SIRS/MODS.3 Searching the systemic pattern identification of Chinese medicine in the overall process of SIRS/MODS.We think the third one is the most important. In the clinic research we choose 34 patients all in acute respiratory tract infection and SIRS. We depart them to two groups. One is treatment group which including!4 patients, the rest is control group including 20 patients. The treatment group is treated together with the conventional means and Ephedra Decoction (ma-huang tang) .The control group is treated only with the conventional means. The result indicated the recovery rate of the treatment group and control group with 93% and 40%.They have obviously difference by the T test (P=0.000411).The study shows warm, acrid exterior resolution is more suited comparing with clearing heat and resolving toxin in the treatment to SIRS provoked by acute respiratory tract infection.lt also tell us the six-channels pattern identification is important in the treatment to SIRS/MODS.
