Extraction technique is a key technology in quality control of Chinese herb. The use of conventional extraction methods, such as Soxhlet extraction, reflux extraction and sonication suffers from a variety of disadvantages, including long extraction time, relatively large amount of organic solvents and unsatisfactory extraction efficiency. Conventional extraction technique are increasingly becoming one bottleneck of blocking on development of quality control of Chinese herb.Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) is a new extraction technology which has developed in recent years and been widely used in many fields such as sample analysis on environments, foods and pharmaceuticals. It offers many advantages with respect to extraction time, solvent consumption, extraction yields and reproducibility. The exploitation on quality control of Chinese herb is a new application area of ASE.In this thesis, by applying scientific experimental design and combining modern analysis techniques, we studied the methodology of accelerated solvent extraction on different kinds of representative chemical components, such as saponin, alkaloid, volatile oil, flavonoid and anthraquinone in Chinese herb for the first time. Furthermore, comparisons of ASE and conventional extraction methods have been made. And we have made a useful attempt on applying ASE on quality control of Chinese herb and offered method references on its standardization in the future via this study.
