Infection of the urinary tract is an important and significant problem in the aging population. Various factors contribute to the increased prevalence of urinary tract infections in the elderly, including altered bladder function and defences/'immune senescence",changes in pelvic musculature,prostate size, and concomitant illnesses such as cerebrovascular accident or dementia, which may lead to poor hygiene, impaired mobility, and neurogenic bladder dysfunction. Decreased prostate secretions in elderly men can predispose to urinary tract infections. The risk factors of urinary tract infections in the elderly mainly include bladder defence mechanism attenuating, neurogenic bladder, urinary obstruction, intra-urethral cannula and disease resistance decreasing. The clinical manifestation of urinary tract infection is not typical in elderly. So it is very easy to misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis. The urinary tract infection in the elderly is mainly pyelonephritis, and always complicating urosepsis and acute renal papillary necrosis. Its case-fatality rate is very high. If used renal toxicity -drugs, the patient easily suffer from ARE The diagnosis of urinary tract infection in the elderly should abidy by individualization principle. So it is important to think highly of how to prevent and cure the UTI in the eldly.
