Depression is one of the important diseases in clinical medicine. Withthe quick rhythm of work and life in the modern world, the stress eventssuch as competition occur more often, and people are enduring morepsychological pressure. The conditions of psychological health aregetting worse in both the developed countries and the developing countries. And the rate of depression is higher than before. The treatment ofdepression by electric acupuncture (EA) was researched in the experimentand the clinic. In the view of both traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and westernmedicine, it is believed that the brain and liver are the keyzang-fu-organs for depression, so the dysfunction of mind and the liverfailing to sooth and regulate the circulation of qi are the TCM'spathogenesis of the depression. The traditional-point group is acombination of "qimen", "taichong", "yanglingquan", "zhigou","neiguan", "zusanli". By reviewing the literature of depressionwith the acupuncture therapy, we found that the six points including"baihui", "yintang", "sishencong", "shenmen", "taichong","sanyinjiao" were in effect. We made the clinical and experimentalcomparation between two groups and discussed the mechanism in order toinstruct the clinical practice. Clinical study: There are 40 patients treated EA and the other 20patients orally administrated fluovetine. The combination of "baihui","yintang", "sishencong","shenmen","taichong", "sanyinjiao"was named the "six points" group. The combination of "qimen","taichong", "yanglingquan", "zhigou", "neiguan", "zusanli" wasnamed the traditional group. Patients in these two group were given EAdaily for 30 minutes for 6 weeks. Patients in the fluovetine group weretreated for 6 weeks with daily dose of 20mg. Their therapeutic effects were evaluated by Hamilton depression scale. Both two EA groups and the fluovetine group were effective in the treatmentof depression. The "six points" group was significantly better than thetraditional group, and obtained the same curative effect with thefluovetine group. At the same time, two EA groups had less side-effectsthan the fluovetine group. Experimental study: The study applied forced swimming test mouse modelof depression and singly housed rat model combined exposed chronically21 days to a variety of mild unpredictable stressors in order to comparedifferent points. 1.To compare the theraputic effect of the "six points"group and thetraditional group, we used forced swimming test mouse model of depression.Blood plasma Cortisol(CORT) of depression was significantly higher thanthat of normal controls. From the fifth day, we found EA could apparentlydecrease the immobility time as well as the blood plasma CORT comparedwith control group, especially the "six points" group, while thefluovetine could make it from the frist day. The bondage group had notsignificant difference from control group. The accumulative effect of EAcould cure stress which caused the hyperfunction ofHypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, so the degree of CORT droppedto normal. 2.We used singly housed rat combined exposed chronically 21 days toa variety of mild unpredictable stressors as the model. Compared withnormal rats, the weights of the rats in model group increased less thanthat of the control. They had achieved lower scores of horizontal andvertical movements in open-field test. The experiment results approvedthat acupuncturing "six points" could not increase the weight of rats, but significantly increase the scores of horizontal and vertical movementsin open-field test. The fluovetine could significantly increase the weightof rats and the scores of horizontal and vertical movements in open-fieldtest. The traditional group and the bondage group were not significantlydifferent from the model group. 3.We used immunohistochemistry technique to explore the change ofp-CREB in hippocampus. We found that the level of p-CREB in hippocampusin model group was relatively low compared with the normal group. The levelof p-CREB of the "six po...
