Spermatogenesis, the fundamental function of adult testis, is a continuum of cellular differentiation in which three principal phases can be discerned: spermatogonia renewal and proliferation, meiosis and spermiogenesis. It is a complex process involving cell division, differentiation and interaction between cells in the microenvironment of the seminiferous tubule. Under the sequential changes of testis morphology and function it is the complicated regulation of gene expression.Scientists have paid much attention to the regulation of gene expression in testis recently. Alternative splicing is an important mechanism in the transcript level. To research the alternative splicing in testis would be helpful to understand the mechanism of gene expression and the diversity of proteins. We identified a novel alternative transcript of NORPEG (novel retinal pigment epithelial cell gene) gene by hybridizing human testis cDNA microarray with cDNA probes from human fetal testes, adult testes and human spermatozoa. The novel alternative transcript of NORPEG was named sNORPEG (a short transcript of NORPEG gene). The cDNA sequence of this clone was deposited in Genbank (AY317139). Blasting human genome database localized sNORPEG to human chromosome...
