Integrative Medicine On The Treatment Of Diabetic Nephropathy In Three Clinical Studies

Objective : To observe the effect of Mai Tong Fang (MTF) in treating the 3rd stage of diabetic nephropathy(DN).Methods: 60 diabetic patients with 3rd stage of diabetic nephropathy (Male 37, Female 23; average age 60.8 years) during May 2004 to February 2005 from the Hospital of T.C.M of Sichuan province have been chose into this clinical research. Using MTF to treat 30 patients controlled by 30 patients treated with irbesartan. The therapeutic course was 12 weeks for both two groups. Changes of clinical symptoms, blood glucose, lipid metabolism, blood viscosity, blood pressure and urine albumin excretion rate(UAER), α₁-microglobulin(α₁-MG),TRF were observed and compared.Results: The clinical symptoms, urine albumin excretion rate, α₁-microglobulin, lipid metabolism as well as blood viscosity of the treating group were all significantly improved after treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01), but in the control group improvement only showed in some of the projects above (P<0.05).Conclusion: treatment of T.C.M combined with west medicine has the effects of reducing urine albumin excretion rate, improving lipid metabolism and blood viscosity in treating the 3rd stage of diabetic nephropathy.
