Objective: To assess the effect of HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) treatment on patients with advanced Primary Liver Cancer (PLC) . Methods: The prognosis of 81 patients treated with HIFU from May 2002 to December 2003 was followed up. Results: The survival rate of the patients treated with HIFU at 3 months was 69.1 %,at 6 months was 33.3%,at 9 months was 16.7%,at 1 year was 10.8 %. There was significance between natural survival period of patients with PLC and that of treated with HIFU. The chronic cancer pain was relieved in 60.9% patients after HIFU. Conclusion: HIFU can prolong the survival period of the patients with advanced PLC and improve the quality of their lives.
