Objective: By the methods of biochemical measurement and histochemistry ,it was observed the effect of decreasing blood sugar of Polygonum mutiflorum Thunb in diabetic rats induced by alloxan and studied its mechanism of decreasing blood sugar, it will provide the science theories for clinical application basis. Methods: The rats were divided into 4 groups: normal control group (NCG), model control group (MCG) and experimental group (EG 2.0g/kg/d,1.0g/kg/d). The experimental period was 3 weeks. 3 weeks later, fasted blood sugar, activity of SOD and amount of MDA were measured by the method of biochemical measurement; Took the liver to do the PAS reaction ,and showed the disposal of glucose. Results: The result of biochemical measurement: after experimental, fasted blood sugar of EG was obviously decreasing than before (P<0.01), activity of SOD was obviously increased (P<0.01), and amount of MDA was obviously decreased (P<0.05); The result of Liver's PAS reaction: The amount of EG'S disposal of glucose was obviously increased. Conclusion: The Polygonum mutiflorum Thunb had the effete of decreasing blood sugar on diabetic mice induced by alloxan. May be its mechanism of decreasing blood sugar was the insulin kind function of promoting synthesis of hepatic glycogen etc, clearancing free radicals and process of anti-lipid peroxidation.
