Objective: Carotid artery stenosis is one of the factors which result in ischemic cerebrovascular disease. But it is not final conclusion that at what time we should exert surgery intervention. We are going to research the carotid artery stenosis interval which can make the cerebral blood flow hemodynamic change significantly through animal experiment and to provid reference for the clinical indication. Methods: Eighteen Japan flap-eared white rabbits ,weight 3.5~4.0 kg,male or female, were divided randomly into three groups. Take the right as experimental side and the left as control side. We narrowed partly the experimental side carotid artery to <70%,70%~80% or >80%,and observe the change of the both-side carotid arterial and ophthalmic arterial hemodynamic with the Ultrasonography. The results were tested by two-sample t-test.It were getting their brain within 24 hours after the operations. We detected the apoptosis and necrosis cells of brain mantle by propidinm iodide-single stain method with flow cytometer. The results were also tested by two-sample t-test.Results: When the experimental side carotid artery stenosis is 70%~80%, the Vmax was significantly different between the experimental group and control group(P<0.05). When the experimental side carotid artery stenosis exceed 80%, the Vmax of carotid artery and ophthalmic artery was significantly different between the experimental group and control group(P<0.05).The flow cytometer shows: When the experimental side carotid artery stenosis exceed 80%,the numbers of apoptosis and necrosis cells of brain mantle were significantly different between the experimental side and control side(P<0.05).Conclusions: 70%~80% is the carotid artery stenosis interval which can make the cerebral blood flow hemodynamic change significantly. It is necessary to execute intervention study at this time for preventing the development of cerebral ischemia and irreversible damage of brain.
