Ageratum conyzoides L is an annual herb with a long history of traditional medicinal use in many countries in the world, especially in the tropical and subtropical regions. They also were reported to possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities. This study includes two parts. In the first part, amino acid, microelement and essential oil of A. conyzoides have been analyzed. In the second part, the antimicrobial activity of extracts and the toxicity of this plant have been investigated. The results were summarized as follows:1) A large number of constituents have been identified from the GC-MS analysis of the essential oil of A. conyzoides. A total of 28 constituents have been reported from the analysis of an oil sample of the plant collected from Zhejiang. The dominant component of the essential oil of A. conyzoides is precocene I. Amino acid and microelement have been analyzed on the phytochemistry: Al (96.67 mg/kg), Fe(119mg/kg), P (1503 mg/kg) ,As ( 0.105 mg/kg),Hg (0 mg/kg),Pb (1.839 mg/kg), B (14.65 mg/kg) ,K (12150 mg/kg), Mg (1086 mg/kg) and Se (0.0695 mg/kg) etal.2) The biological activities of the plant are treated. It has been found to have activity in anti-fungi. The reasearch showed that compounds produced by and released from A. conyzoides could inhibit the major fungal pathogens, such as Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonin solani, Sclerotium rolfsii, Rhizopus sp, Alterndrid tenuts, Clletotrichum orbicular, Pybhium ultimum, Botrytis cinerea, Verticillium dahliae. Just crude extract could obviously possess inhibitory effect on fungal pathogens.
