This article explored the treatment of spinal cord injury(SCI).We used two therapeutic methods to treat patients, one group is treated with Western and Traditional Chinese medicine, the other only by Western medicine, then compare the results of the two groups. This article is divided into two parts. The first part reviews the cognition of SCI in modern medicine, including epidemiology, mechanism of trauma, anatomic characteristic of spinal cord, change of pathology and biochemics, diagnosis and differentiation diagnosis, clinical symptoms, categories and the progress of therapy. we have lots of ways to treat SCI in westen medincine, but the recovery of damaged spinal cord and nerve root is not very well. And the long time using of diuretic and steroid can result in a series of complications, such as disturbed electrolyte, edema, decreasing resistance, easy to infect, and so on.The author thinks it is necessary to improve the effect by adding traditional Chinese medicine after reading lots of pertinent literature. The second part is a clinical investigation. 37 patients were divided into two groups at random. The first group includes 18 patients, treated with western medicine and Jisuikang herb medicine. The second group includes 19 patients treated only by western medicine. Observing the changes of marks of touch feeling, pain feeling and movement after therapy, and the difference between the two groups, we conclude that the therapeutic efficacy of the first group is better than the second one.The first method may help the patients to recover earlier, may leave less sequelas, and may be cared more easily. So the author thinks Jisuikang herb medicine is very helpful for SCI.
