| Through investigating the villagers' illness behavior, this dissertation exploresthe "health poverty" phenomenon in current village residents: due to paucity of healthconsciousness, low capabilities of keeping health, lack of ability and opportunity torecover from illness, and the resulting or exacerbation of economy poverty.Based on the empirical survey in an administration village in G xian Hunanprovince, the study finds that: (1) Villagers experience illness behavior through theirlife experiences in acquaintances society, and build up an illness concept for ruralsociety. As an illness culture values, the illness concept also affects their choice onwhen and where to see the doctor and the kind of treatments. The illness conceptioncoming from villagers' life experiences is not only the important representation onpaucity of health consciousness, but also the important causation for their healthpoverty. (2)Though there have stratification in occupation and economy level, thevillages' illness behavior didn't appear structural differences correspondingly. Itdoesn't show different characteristics in different gender,age,education grade anddomestic economy status. (3) Folk prescription, herbs,rites and other form's folktherapies have become complementary medicines, being used extensively in curingdaily illness and intractable disease. (4) In acquaintances society, rural infirmary hasgreat significance for maintaining villagers' health, higher accessibility for villagers;Faith relation coming from "acquaintance" makes villagers more like to see a doctorin rural infirmary.Judging from the allocation of resources for rural infirmaries, the scarcity ofsanitary investment and the faulty of medical security affect the availability on gettinghealth service for villagers, and then lead to a lack of health opportunity. A whole"poverty health" in village residents become the inevitable consequence. To solve thevillagers' health poverty problem, we should fortify educating and extension modernmedical scientific health conception, establish feasible social medical sanitary policy,then to implement allocating public hygiene resources fairly and uphold villagers'health rights practically. |
