Diabetic Dry Eye With Their Sex Hormone Levels Related Research

Objective To evaluate the dependablity between sex hormoneand dry eye symptoms in patients with diabetes mellitus.Methods A total of 80 patients were included in this study(40 patients(20men, 20women) suffering from diabetes mellitus and 40 healthy subjects (20men, 20women)). According to the diagnostic criteria of dry eye syndrome, they were classified as four group: the diabetes mellitus group with dry eye, the diabetesmellitus group without dry eye, the healthy group with dry eyeand the healthy group without dry eye. The level of testosterone, estradiol, prolactin and progesterone of the four group were measured by the radioimmunity method. At last, the data were statistical analysis.Results The level of testosterone of women with diabetes mellitus was higher than the healthy women and the estradiol/testosterone raito was lower(P＜0.05) There were no statisticaldifferences in the diabetes mellitus group with dry eye, the diabetes mellitus group without dry eye, the healthy group with dry eye and the healthy group without dry eye(P＞0.05).Conclusions The level of sex hormone was not a diadynamiccriteria of dry eye in the diabetes mellitus patients.
