Dermestoides Efficacy Studies

Martianus dermestoides (MD),belongs to Coleoptera Tenebrionidae,used as folk medicine,food and feedstuff as well.According to references and folk remedies,MD has been used as medicine and health care food in the treatment of many kinds of diseases.In this paper,anti-inflammatory and analgesic pharmacodynamics of extracts with different polarity from MD was studied.Aim:Study anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of extracts with different polarity from MD.Method:Water extracts and ethanol extracts were obtained by maceration method,while petroleum ether extract was obtained by soxhlet's extracter.Using adjuvant arthritis rats induced by FCA,the influence and mechanism of each extracts on RA were studied by observing the changes of body weight,the swelling degree of the paw and histopathological changes in the joints and by testing the values of IL-1βand TNF-αin serum of the AA rats.With right hind paw edema in mice induced by intradermal injection of carrageenan , the influence of each extracts on acute edema was investigated.Even's blue was injected through tail veins in mice with an intraperitoneal injection of glacial acetic acid,absorbance of serum of each mouse was tested and influence of each extracts on capillary permeability were observed.Furthermore,the analgesic activity of each extracts on writhing induced by aceric acid in mice was studied.Results:Extracts of MD significantly inhibited paw edema in AA rats,meanwhile significantly eased synovial inflammation and proliferation of the tested joints,lessoned the destroy in bone and cartilage,inhibited the secretion of IL-1βand TNF-αin AA rats.The inhibition degree of water extracts on paw edema induced by carrageenan reached more than 30%,significantly inhibited paw edema.And all the extracts of MD reduced capillary permeability in modeling mice.In addition,water extracts has significant analgesic activity with over 50% inhibition degree on writhing test in mice.Conclusion:Each extracts of MD has anti-inflammatory and analgesic Activities.Among them,the water extracts and ether extracts have better anti-inflammatory effects.And water extracts have significant analgesic effect.The mechanism may recult from inhibiting the secretion of inflammatory factors IL-1βand TNF-αto increase the natural immune function of model animals and from inhibiting proliferation of symoyial and formation of pannus,from inhibiting happening of inflammation,from decreasing the secretion of collagenase and destruction of bone and cartilage.
