Indigo naturalis is a kind of Chinese traditional medicine, which has the effect of heat-clearing and detoxifying, cooling blood,stopping blood and clearing liver-heat, and it is widely clinical used. It's medical history is so long, but the way of production is still handmade, and during the production it depends on the ancients' experience, these lead to the quality of the products is irregularity, which is badly affected the clinical effect. In order to solve the problem, the first task is to learn the basic principal of Indigo naturalis's processing.According to the study of ancient techniques of making indigo and dyeing process, the paper focuses on analyzing the basic links during the processing of Indigo naturalis, clearing understanding the transformation of products, and investing the effects of internal and external factors, and finally clear the basic principal of indigo naturalis's processing.The study is applied on such links as steeping and hydrolysis, the preparation and refining of crude indigo and so on. During the steeping and hydrolysis indole glycoside, we invest as the internal factors, the effects of fermentation process of microorganism, the results showed that the effects of single cultures or microbe group is weak.During the study of the effects of external factors to fermentation of microbe (such as oxygen, temperature, pressure), we focus on the study of such factors as the temperature and time of processing. The result shows the best the condition of processing is 12h in 35℃,and maybe there have other resources of enzymes to effect the hydrolysis processing.During the link of preparation of crude indigo, it is further divided the two processes, the synthesis and separation of crude indigo. During the synthesis of crude indigo, we use NaOH in place of lime, and demonstrate the important effects of lime. The amount of NaOH and lime, the time of beating indigo, are mostly external factors. The result shows that the best beating indigo is 20min, the amounts of NaOH is 3%, and the amounts of lime is 2% .The technology of froth flotation is applied in the processing of refining of crude indigo, through it, we analyze the principle of traditional refining processing, including the foaming matters, foaming principal and separation principle. The result of this study and foaming equipment both demonstrate the feasibility and advantage of application the technology of froth flotation.Analyzing all results of study, the paper clearly shows the principle of indigo naturalis's processing.
