ObjectiveTo evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of B-scan ultrasonography for detection of retrobulbar neuritis.MethodsFifty-eight eyes of 42 patients with retrobulbar neuritis were detected by B-scan ultrasonography(Alcon Digital).Corss sections of optic disk and optic nerve were observed, and the diameter of optic nerve was measured.ResultsThe optic nerves in 51 eyes were found to be abnomal. The diameter of optic nerve increased in 42 eyes, which was accompanied by optic disc edema in 19 eyes and optic nerve hydrocele in 18 eyes, and decreased in seven eyes. The sensitivity of B-scan ultrasonography for detecting retrobulbar neuritis was high(87.9%).ConclusionB-scan ultrasonography is an importantly useful technique for clinical diagnosis of retrobulbar neuritis. |
