Objective:To study the effect of topical anesthesia and retrobulbar block on hemodynamic changes for cataract patients, especially those with hypertension. Methods:A total of 143 eyes of 143 patients scheduled for cataract surgery, were divided into two groups according to with or without hypertension. Those with hypertension (86 cases) were randomly assigned to 2groups as groupTd (43 cases, under topical anesthesia), group Rd(43cases,under retrobulbar block). Those without hypertension (57 cases) were also assigned to 2groups as group Tn (28 cases, under topical anesthesia),group Rn (29 cases, under retrobulbar block).ALL of them were underwent monitored anesthesia and operation.Blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation were recorded every 3mins. Verbal-Numeric Rating Scale (VNS) was used to assess painpreoperative, intraoperative and postoperative.Datawas analyzed using softwareSPSS21.0.Results:Group Rd had less additional anesthesia than group Td(P< 0.05), while the difference of additional anesthesia in group Rn and group Tn was not significant (P= 0.24).Group Rd and Rn suffered much more pain at the moment of anesthesia, but less pain in the beginning of surgery, and 30 mins postoperative than group Td and Tn (P<0.05).There was no significant difference ofblood pressure and heart rate of each periodbetween group Td and group Rd.(P> 0.05). But the blood pressure of group Rn was significantly higher than group Tn at the moment of anesthesia. Conclusion:Retrobulbar block anesthesiais more suitable for cataract patientsespecially the aged hypertensive patients.
