Purpose:To report the outcome for repair of minor detail of the dorsal thumb and nail bed was damaged bone exposure with tissue defect of the abdomen finger using the dorsal island skin flap of index finger. The dorsal island skin flap of index finger was used to treat patients of skin defect of the thumb and follow up post operatively.Check up the function of patient' s fingers and compare with the function of patient's fingers treat by traditional flaps so as to draw a scientific conclusion, and then put forward reliable clinical stats and guide clinical treatment. Methods:Choosing 120 patients of tissue defect of the thumb(includes a part of patients of Hospital from 2005 to 2008)and allocating two groups at random. The experimental group includes 60 patients. The dorsal is land skin flap of index finger was used to treat. The control group includes 60 patients. The abdominal wall flap was used to treat patients.Checking up and evaluating the function of patient's fingers in the 8 months to 12 months after the operation.(only evaluates donater)Results:The follow-up ranged from 8 months to 12 months post operatively. It showed satisfactory results functionally and cosmetically with using the dorsal island skin flap of index fingers. The flaps survived completely. The flap had good texture and color match. The proper digital never were 5 to 7 mm.Conclusions:The operation of dorsal island skin flap of index fingers flaps of dorsum of the finger do not damage the major nerve and artery of the finger, and the sense of flap is satisfactory. The flaps was suitable thickness softness and resistance to wear and tear.Researches of anatomy attest that the location of dorsal branches of the proper digital artery are steady, thus the flaps was good blood supply.
