The process of listening comprehension is started by, but not limited to, perceiving, receiving, and processing acoustic signal. It also includes a complicated integration of loading different language knowledge such as vocabulary, syntax etc. and using them to analyze the received signal and then transforming the signal into apprehensible information. Therefore, the level of listening comprehension process can objectively and accurately reflects the SLA (Second Language Acquisitor)'s overall language skills, and thus is usually considered an important part in foreign language test.Although in EEE4, dictation is very important for assessing examinee's listening comprehension skill as well as overall language skills, grading in this part is not statistically consistent following these years and certain eccentric phenomenon of "collective zero" appeared in the tests for some years. Accordingly, this thesis utilizes theories of applied linguistics, social linguistics and comparative linguistics to analyze issues of evaluating language test validity and setting scientific examination standard. By controlling certain variables in the dictation test, the study demonstrates that grades of dictation can generally be forecasted and controlled, through which errors in designing tests can be avoided, so as that validity of dictation can be improved, and furthermore the validity and scientificity of EEE4 can be improved.First, based on external convalidation method, the study uses statistics software SPSS to analyze the correlations between the grades of dictation and other parts in EEE4 from 2001 to 2009, and states that ability of listening comprehension can be improved by ameliorating other language skills. Second, the thesis finds out several variables in the dictation test can be effective in ensuring the validity and scientificity of the language test, by studying the correlations between examinee's overall grade and variables in the dictation test such as number and distribution of characters, syllables, words (unrepeated), words with more than two syllables, as well as the frequency of certain phonemes and consonant clusters. In the final part, the thesis finds out the main obstacles for examinee in the dictation test and shortcomings in second language learning through a statistics analysis of dictation test in EEE4 2009, based on which the thesis proposes suggestions for improving foreign language learning and teaching, and setting scientific examination standard for dictation test.
