Duplication, characterized by repeating one word, is a common linguistic form in Chinese language. Many words in Chinese have duplication forms, ranging from verbs, adjectives, adverbs and nouns, to name just a few. The duplication of adverbs has its own characteristics which are different from that of verbs, adjectives.Based on the previous studies, the present thesis focuses on the adverb duplication—synonym A form and AA form as a case study within Syllabus of Chinese Words.This thesis offers a comprehensive study on adverb synonym A form and AA form from semantic, syntactic and pragmatic dimensions by concrete examples in hope of facilitating Chinese teaching process.Frequency adverbs of"Chang–Changchang"and"Lian—Lianlian", are discussed in chapter one and chapter two respectively. Chapter three involves the discussion of time adverb"Gang-Ganggang", and chapter four the scope adverb"Jin—Jinjin".The differences between adverb synonym A form and AA form are summarized in last chapter. Meanwhile, the reasons behind those differences are explained from synchronic and diachronic perspectives combining with the knowledge of rhythm and cognition. |
