In recent years, the lexicalization patterns have become a research hotspot of cognitive semantics. In terms of the lexicalization patterns of realization between English and Chinese, the previous studies can be mainly summarized as the following statements:Talmy summarizes his research achievements in Towards a Cognitive Semantics published in 2000. He has analyzed the semantic domains in which English verbs embody and classified them into five framing events, and conducted a further and deeper research on the lexicalization pattern of motion verbs.Based on Talmy's studies, many scholars in China concentrates on the motion verbs, that is, the motion event of semantic domains, and rarely focuses on the other four kinds of framing events by means of comparative study. Therefore, the current study mainly concentrates on the following issues:In terms of selection of linguistic data, fifty selected English verbs are of the highest frequency of utilization, and on whose realization concepts are conducted a semantic analysis and these forms of expressions are being studied. Then, these fifty verbs serve as a reference, a survey is conducted on the lexicalization patterns of realization of Chinese verbs. In the end, a comparative study is put into practice for distinguishing the differences and similarities between the expressions that convey the realization events in English and Chinese, and the paper furthers its study on the reasons for these differences and the great importance of its application to language teaching. In terms of linguistic theory, Talmy's theory serves as a guideline, and Yan Chenshong's studies are adopted as a sound foundation, the paper attempts to carry on the study of the semantic classification of verbs and their expression forms of realization. In terms of research methods, the current paper will use a method to have a quantitative analysis of the linguistic data which integrates synchronic approach and diachronic one, dynamic and static ways, description and explanation, and deduction and induction. On a sound foundation of previous studies, the current paper has several innovations: on the one hand, fifty common use Chinese verbs that convey the meaning of realization are selected as research objects. By means of Statistical and Quantitative Methods, the paper conducts researches on the lexicalization patterns and their semantic concepts of Chinese and English verbs respectively and also carry on a comparative study. On the other hand, by using some relevant theories of cognitive semantics, a qualitative study is put into practice on the basis of quantitative analysis to distinguish the differences between the expressions that convey the realization events in English and Chinese, and to discover the reasons for generating the differences and the great importance of its application to language teaching.
