| Verb-complement structure(v-c) and verb-de("å¾—")-complement structure(v-de-c) are twodifferent syntactic structures. Many linguists have done some independent researches to bothof them, but the articles taking the two together of the comparative study are few. This thesiscompares verb-complement structure and verb-de-complement structure based on some corpus, and found that there are a lot of asymmetry in actual using. The thesis describes thesephenomena, while, we explore the cause of these asymmetry in grammatical level, semanticlevel, and pragmatic level. This thesis consists of four chapters, Chapter I is an introduction and retrospect, Chapter IVis a summary, Chapter II and Chapter III are main body of the thesis.Chapter II is the part of grammatical description. Main descriptions in a certain corpus, v-cand v-de-c in the whole quantity, the quantity of the predicate verbs, the quantity of the wordsfilling the function of the complement, the quantity of negative and affirmative forms of the twostructures. The four parts are divided into count frequency and do not count frequency. Whetheror not count frequency, The quantity of v-c in the whole quantity, the predicate, the complementare far more than v-de-c; within v-de-c, The quantity of affirmative is far less than the quantityof negative ,but within v-c, The quantity of affirmative is far more than the quantity of negative, the two forms also show an asymmetry.Chapter III is the part of explanation. This chapter will explain the asymmetry shown inChapter II.First of all, to the quantity of complement in v-c which is more than complement in v-de-c,we use semantic theory to explain. Speakers may expect nice ending, so complement in v-de-cusually can act as adjectives which are likely to good connotation, in particular affirmative, thecomplement requirements must be purr-word. Complement in v-c is more inclusive, whether it isa good description of the results, or bad, are both access to complement in v-c, so the number ofit is far more than complement in v-c. For that positive words can move into the two forms , andthe negative words can only enter v-c, we use the markedness model of antonym to explain.Secondly, we survey v-c and v-de-c from point of the strong and weak of the dynamicnature of verb, explain the reasons that the quantity of the predicate enter v-de-c far less than v-c:the predicate enter v-c is no limited to the dynamic nature of verb; whether it is strong dynamicof verb or weak , predicate can move into; in v-de-c, moving of the verb take advantage of strong. This has resulted into the verb enter v-de-c is far less than v-c, resulting in the quantity of v-cmay be greater than v-de-c.Again, for the asymmetry within v-c and v-de-c, this thesis use of the asymmetry of positiveand negative to explain that the quantity of affirmative is far less than the quantity of negativewithin v-de-c; and using bound structure difficult to make up of a sentence to explain that thequantity of affirmative is far more than the quantity of negative within v-c.Finally, during investigation, we found another reason that v-c is more than v-de-c in actualusing. Due to economy principle, the original sentence not made up complement in v-c, changeto concise, comprehensive v-c, causing the increase of v-c. |
