| We usually encounter various contents on Chinese culture, tradition and history when reporting cultural news in English to people in other countries. As a result, interpretive translation is playing an essential role in meeting requirements of international audience. In fact, print media in China have been more concerned for audience effect and communication effect in recent years with interpretative translation used more than before, but the practice still needs improving.This thesis introduces the relevant theories of information processing, cross-cultural communication and news writing to the study, trying proving the influence of interpretative translation on audience. Setting the reports from feature series Shades of Shanghai (Oct 2008-Jan. 2009) in Shanghai Daily as a case in point, the author concludes the characteristics and disadvantages in the practice of interpretative translation and try to offer improved expressions as reference. |
