For the past 30 years, translation studies have stepped out of the traditional linguistic research approach and taken historical, cultural and social elements into consideration, thus providing us with a brand-new vision of research. This is why the author of this thesis is now working on the paper of Jiang Chunfang, who greatly influenced translation activities at that time. Though articles on him have never stopped being published, ever since he passed away at the end of the year 1987, the majority of them are narrative bits and pieces without any systematic review or consistent viewpoint, especially on the part of his translation activities. As Jiang is the founder of SISU, the author would gladly present this thesis as a special gift to her Alma Mater for 60 years anniversary, and as a remembrance for the forefathers.Based on a broader cultural perspective of translation studies, rounded data collection and analysis, the author of this thesis will use theories of western cultural school of translation studies to discuss Jiang's activities. In detail, the author of this thesis will discuss Jiang's influence on the growth of certain translators and translation activities by cases, e.g., his decisive role on Cao Ying and Ren Rongrong, and the establishment of Translator's Association, to name just a few.The introduction part of this thesis includes the literature review and thesis structure, etc. And the first chapter gives an overview of Jiang's life experience and tries to relate his influence with the theory of translation studies cultural school, and with his role as a special patron.Chapter two is the main body of the thesis. The author of this thesis attempts to explore Jiang Chunfang's influence on translation activities through data analysis.Chapter three is about the value of Jiang Chunfang's influences.Chapter four is the end, which mainly discusses the shortcomings of this thesis and the potential fields in Jiang Chunfang research. Last but not least, the author of this thesis attempts to supplement Lefevere'theory and propose a new mode of research.
