Christian Church Teaching Of The Medieval Universities Of Europe

Since the barbaric Germans destroyed the state machine of the Roman Empire, along with it was the decline of classical culture. Under this situation, Christian monastery and bishop school began to engage in the work of preserving and spreading Roman culture. While the medieval European civilization inherited the classical civilization, it also connected to the modern culture; therefore. It played an important role on the world history, because many cultural achievements were came out from the Middle Ages and lasted until nowadays, and among these achievements, the emergence of the European medieval universities is the most brilliant thing. European medieval universities were developed from the monastery and bishop school which under the Christian Church, and grown up between the combat of Christian Church and the Secular regime, European universities were born in the Middle Ages and reached peak in the 13th century. During the 12th century, European mainland was Comprehensive revived in the area of Cultural and economic. The Christian Church was the master of medieval people's spiritual world, and regarded medieval universities as a place for training theological talents, apart from this, the Christian Church took medieval universities as the battle field which against the heresy. Therefore, the Christian Church was very concerned with the European medieval university education.The thesis is made up by the introduction and the body text. The introduction mainly described the reasons for selecting this topic, the meaning of this topic, Current research at home and abroad, research methods,and defined this thesis'related concepts, especially defined the concept of teaching. This thesis'body text includes five chapters.The first chapter discussed the Christian church as the foundation to the European medieval universities. It included three parts, the first part emphatically expounded Christian church school lied the foundation of the medieval university education. The second part talked about Christian bishop school was the prototype of medieval university. The third part emphatically expounded the role of the Christian church during the period of the medieval universities'establishment.The second chapter is the influence of Christian church put on the European medieval universities teaching. European medieval universities had four important curriculums. The chapter included four parts, the first part emphatically expounded Christian church played the important role on the medieval universities theology; The second part emphatically expounded Christian church played the important role on the medieval universities law; the third part emphatically expounded Christian church played the important role on the medieval universities medical; the third part emphatically expounded Christian church played the important role on the medieval universities literature.The third chapter is the role of the Christian church to the medieval universities teaching methods. In the Middle Ages, The medieval universities mainly use two kinds of teaching methods, the first kind is lecture; the second kind is debate. The chapter mainly expounded two kinds of teaching methods, and discussed the influence of Christian church put on the European medieval universities teaching methods.The fourth chapter is the influence of Christian church to the medieval universities teachers and students. The first part mainly expounded the influence to the teachers which from the three aspects, that is, in turn from the support to the teachers'teaching profession, clergy identity and teaching freedom. The second part mainly expounded the influence to the students which from the three aspects, that is, in turn from the support to the students study career, clergy identity and study.The fifth chapter is the teaching management mainly about the Christian church supervised the medieval universities chancellors and professoriate.
