Both China's Qianlong style and France's Rococo style have reached the highest level of their own national classical art deco. They have made unimaginable breakthrough in the field of art deco, especially in respects of crafts and techniques, which both play an important role in the history of the world art deco.Both the two styles belong to the almost same period, which can be traced back to the eighteenth century. During that period, the cultural exchange between China and France was more frequent than ever before, especially in the respect of art deco. At that time Chinese style of decoration gained great popularity in France and many other European countries, which lasted for about one hundred years. Meanwhile, the decoration of China's palaces showed an exotic trend of western fashions, which added western elements to China's art deco in Qianlong period and made contribution to the diversified development of China's art deco.From a comparative analysis of the classical art deco in the Qianlong - rococo period, it can be found that there are many intriguing similarities between the two styles, which are the shared features of exquisite palace cultures. For example, they both fully reflect the rulers'aesthetic influence on the art deco in that period. They both place emphasis on the expression of ornaments and therefore are keen about delicate and polished expressions. They both fully display exquisite and perfect crafts and techniques, which promote the development of their own traditional crafts and techniques.However, the two styles in the Qianlong-rococo period have their own distinctive features because of the differences in respects of history and cultureThis thesis illustrates on the formation, features and communication of the two styles from the perspective of the origins of Qianlong style and Rococo style. The emphasis is placed on the analysis of the phenomena produced by the inter-influence between the two styles. Finally, the thesis analyzes the similarities and differences of art deco between China and France in the Qianlong-rococo period.It can enlighten new ideas about the communiction, integration,and development of art deco between China and the West and have great practical significance in guiding how to borrow and assimilate the foreign art deco culture objectively by getting a full knowledge of the features, communication and inter-influence of art deco between China and France in the Qianlong-rococo period.
