"A Dream of the Red Chambers"is the traditional Chinese dream literature mas-ters. The first 80 chapters described nearly 20 dreams. Too many people tried to explore the skills of describing dreams, from initial"Zhiyanzhai"to the contemporary scholars. This thesis also tries to make further analysis on these dreams to contribute for radiol-ogy research. There are 3 parts of this thesis including introduction, mail body and con-clusion. The thesis is from the standpoint of describing the reason of the dream, the source of the dream and the absurdity and reality of the dream disclosing Cao Xueqin's superb dreams'describing art.The introduction mainly expounded the purpose and the significance of exploring Cao's dreams'describing art, reviewed the history and current situation of the research on dreams'description, and briefly introduced the research method and writing clue of the thesis. The first chapter"The dreams of'A Dream of the Red Chambers'"is mainly practicing statistics and classification on the description of the first 80 chapters. In ear-lier dreams'research on"A Dream of the Red Chambers", the defining on"dream"was very vague. Most definitions were generalized and had no unified cognition. Although there were many statisticians, the statistics were not strict blending with many"non-dreams"plot. The basis of the research on Cao's dreams'describing art is dreams'description. So it is necessary to carry on a detailed statistics and classification of de-scription on dreams. According to careful statistics, getting rid of"non-dreams", there are 19 dreams'description in the first 80 chapters, which were listed in forms. The second chapter"The causes of dreams of'A Dream of the Red Chambers'"analyzes Cao's describing dreams skill from the perspective of dream cause. According to traditional Chinese dream theory, dream was combined with external environment, inner feeling, seven emotions and heart knot. The generation of dream was due to psy-chophysical and mental reason. To describe the dream, Cao combines physiology, which includes external environment and inner feeling, with mental reason, which in-cludes seven emotions and heart knot. He also combines the seasons with the five Zang-visceral and six Fu-visceral, and combines seven emotions with the feeling in day, which presents his understanding of the essence of Chinese traditional dream thought. The third chapter"The images of dreams of'A Dream of the Red Chambers'"mainly explores Cao's dream describing art. Dreams in daily life are derived from real life but the prototype of dream may be not in the day or in recent days."Art is above life". Dreams in literature works are to promote plot development or to describe charac-ters, which all have their own use. It needn't view the source of the dream in narrow terms. But Cao is more skillful. He can unite both perfectly. On one hand, dreams were originated from real life. On the other hand, the prototype appeared in the day or in re-cent days, which made the cultural dreams have the characteristic of authenticity. The fourth chapter"The first analysis of dreams of'A Dream of the Red Cham-bers'"mainly analyses Cao's characteristics of absurdity of the dream. Art originates from life. Cultural dream originates from daily life dream. Daily dream has the absurd characteristics, so cultural dream also have the absurd features. The absurdity of dreams in"A dream of red chambers"mainly reflects in the deformation in self-image, logical mutation, authenticity of dream experiencing. The fifth chapter"The second analysis of dreams of'A Dream of the Red Cham-bers'"mainly analyses Cao's characteristics of reality of the dream. Cultural dream was treated as a part of the whole plot, which may depict character or promote plot de-velopment. It's very important to structure the cultural world. It must be different from dreams in daily life and has"authenticity". So Cao wrote dreams to reflect the authen-ticity of dream by authenticity of dream, relatively tight logic relationship, melting of dream boundaries. Conclusion is to generalize the thesis. Cao's dream description of art is so superb that no one can surpass.
