"new Art" Fountainhead

The terms "New Arts" and "New Art", shown in the art literatures and documents of 20th century, as the object for discussion in this paper, will be unified into one term "New Arts" to discuss because the users of the words made no clear distinction between them. So, in the article, i will provide the users in the each time period during the 20th century how to respectively interpret, conclude and judge the word in their articles. On basis of that, i will clear up the significance of "New Arts" which discussants mentioned in their articles. At the same, according to varied concept and methods provided, I will analyze the use of the term "new art" by different scholars in specific context of history---from the planners and promoters of the original art development direction envisioning the art prospects they would have fought for, to kind of "afterwards" induction and description of art historic scholars for certain art phenomenon.And What want a specification here is, the words used by many, since the Republic of China, such as new paintings, emerging art/woodcut/school, new Chinese painting/New Year pictures/YangPian, and since the 1980s literati paintings and the new ink with the same "new" as the prefix of naming, are not included in this paper for discussion as they have their own specific meaning in respectively different periods, which though has some similarity to the word "New Arts".Judged from the evolution of "New Arts" during the 20th century Chinese art history process, it objectively reveals that the traditional Chinese art how to evolved into the modern Chinese art. No matter how the word("New Arts") generates, uses, even the fades, it embodies a kind of appeal to which art creating and theory development direction from different scholars in different periods. In today's speaking, "New Arts", as one of the old narrative ways, it haven't been a kind of historical remains. The discussion on "New Arts" in the art circles, in fact show us the different modern appeals in different years in the 20th century. By restoring the context of the "New Arts" as well as revealing evolution of cultural trends and the alternative concept of the art history which reflected the 20th century Chinese art history, it's also helpful to clarificate where the concept of the 20th century Chinese art history and the way to criticize the works and the phenomena of art comes from, which have been accepted by today's art circle.
