"Zhong" is a very important concept in the Confucian philosophy. The thought of "zhong" with a long history in China, the way of the spread of "zhong" are like endless miles that many scholars put"zhong" as core idea of Confucius'thought and even the entire Confucianism, thus we can see "zhong" is of great significance, and has a far-reaching influence in history of ancient Chinese Ideology. This article in the Angle of philology studies the pre-qin literature books about "zhong" in the previous record and discussed. On the basis of research achievements in the pre-qin literature it has discussed the meaning and the ideological content of "zhong".This article discusses the original meaning of "zhong "firstly, analyzes it through the two writing forms of "zhong "in the Oracle as(?) and(?), and considers the two writing forms of "zhong " are essentially the same, their difference in forms just like the simplified two bodies. Its source is as the same as its original meaning.(?) stands for banner ribbon is very image and easy to understand. According to the basis of the specific issues of "zhong", we think the "banner said" is comparative reasonable. With regard to the understanding of the "o" in the middle of the word "zhong", this article don't agree with the statement of the noon sun throw the just shadow by Jiang Liangfu and the statement of a container by Xiao Bing. We think the position of "o" is right in the middle is just not only a coincidence, but indicates that itself represents a kind of middle including up and down, left and right of the issue, which shows a symmetry and balance ahout the four sides. Especially we should pay attention to which that in the middle of the perch it section out a range with "o", not only a point, shows the original meaning of "zhong " that stands for a kind of impartial degree. This paper try to interpret the pre-qin literature books about "zhong" sentence by sentence, the books including "Shang Shu", "Yi Zhoushu", "Yi Zhuan", "the Analects of Confucius" "the Golden Mean", "Meng Zi", "Xun Zi", "Lao Zi", "Zhuang Zi", "Chu Ci" and newly published "Bao Xun" in Qinghua bamboo strips. On the basis of philology interpretation, we try to analyze the intellectual history, to comb and compare the ideological connotation of "zhong" in the various books, then to discuss the evolution of "zhong'" in the pre-qin period. In Chinese literary history, as a concept "zhong" has a process of emergence, development and spread. We have known from the Oracle's records that "zhong" has emerged in the remote ancient times. During the ancient time of Yao, Shun and Yu it has begun to put "zhong" as a concept to teach and learn. Refers to the Analects of Confucius, Yao handed the throne to Shun at the same time passed the "zhong" to him, in the same way, Shun handed the throne to Yu. Tang, after Yu also insisted the "zhong". In the period of Zhou, from the King Wen to King Wu, including Duck of Zhou, they all insisted "Zhong" as their principles of domination. After the Duke of Zhou, Confucius inherited the concept of "zhong" during Shang and Zhou Period", and made it to be a distillation of the Doctrine of the Mean. In Confucius opinion, the Doctrine of the Mean, is a behavioral approach, which also a kind of virtue. Confucius esteemed it very much and made it become a kind of orthodoxy in Chinese culture. It is a distortion of the doctrine of mean thoughts that consider Confucius'thoughts as eclecticism, harmony theory. We also found "zhong" in Taoist and other literatures during the pre-qin period, but the emphasis of "Zhong" in Taoist about its in ideological connotation is far less than it in Confucian and the materials related are also not as rich as Confucian has.
