Die Shi, a small village in Hong He, is known for its local traditional music, featuring for its rich musical contents and various musical types, especially for its unique melody. Music in Die Shi is characterized for its pentatonic with neutral tone and vacillation with slight flat. Due to its fuzziness and mysteriousness, Die Shi music has more expressive power. Music in Die Shi has the trait of pentatonic sound chamber from Chinese traditional music system and the feature of neutral tone of its own. These characteristics are in line with the features of Persian Arabic music system in Northwest Uyghur people. The structure of Die Shi music is simple but pure, the melody is cleverly used and the rhythm is just to the point. With the help of its seven instruments, that is, leaves, flute, grass, Bawu, Sanxian, Sixian and Urhien and accompanied by the sound of clapping and singing, make music in Die Shi different from other kinds of music in China. As a part of the folk song's language, the extra words in Die Shi music have strengthened the popularity and endemicity of the lyric language, and have enhanced the expression of the music language. Besides, there are ten types of dancing performance in Die Shi. Different kind of music will be matched by different kind of dance. Such as,"Cai Qiao"in the moderato is matched by walking dance, and"Nian Diao","Dou Jiao"in allegro by jogging dance. All these dances are graceful and elegant.This thesis attempts to analyze the current situation of Die Shi music and demonstrate the necessity of protecting, inheriting and fully using this kind of music in the near future.
