The research of human'number ability has been a hot topic in the psychology research. In the former research, people have already discovered many unique effects in number processing, the effect of spatial numerical association of response codes (SNARC effect) and the effect of linguistic markedness of response codes (MARC effect) are two kinds in very important effects. We can study the spatial representation of numbers through these two kinds of effect. Dehaene et al. (1993) provided the first evidence that smaller numbers were responded to faster with the left hand and larger numbers were responded to faster with the right hand by asking their participants to indicate the parity status of a digit. This effect has been labeled as the spatial numerical association of response codes (SNARC effect). The MARC effect is short for the effect of linguistic markedness of response codes, which is that response time is shorter with the mapping even-right/odd-left than with the opposite mapping.More and more researchers study spatial representation of numbers since the SNARC effect and the mental number line found by Dehaene. They achieved some useful results, and got some confused results as well, such as the impact on the SNARC effect and the mental line by reading experiences, the nature of spatial representation in different Symbolic, the relationship between the SNARC effect and the MARC effect, the impact on the MARC effect by reading experiences. In the present research, we use the parity judgment task, target numbers were presented at the center of the screen, a digit is presented each time, and the participants need to judge the parity of the target number. We investigate the nature of numbers'spatial representation in the different direction. The stimuli were three kinds of symbol numbers:the Arabic number, English number and the Chinese character number. We designed two experiments to study the numbers'spatial representation of different symbols In experiment 1, participants were required to press "A","L" to judge the parity of the number, the aim was to study the numbers'spatial representation of different symbols judgment in the horizontal direction, and the influence of reading and writing experience; In experiment 2, we put the keyboard vertically, it resulted in that the bottom "A" and "L" turn vertically, we required participants to judge the parity of the numbers by pressing the up and down bottom, analyzes the numbers'spatial representation of different symbols judgment in the vertical direction, and the influence of reading and writing experience. We can conclude from these two experiments:Arabic number, English number and the Chinese character number can be represented in numeric and parity. The representation in numeric is influenced by individual reading and writing experience, however, the representation in parity is not influenced by individual reading and writing experience. The processing of English number is different from that of Arabic number and Chinese number, however, the nature of the representation on English number is the same as the other two symbolic numbers. The SNARC effect and the MARC effect reflect different aspects of the representation of the numbers. they are different from each other, the SNARC effect is influenced by individual reading and writing experience, however, the MARC effect has been attributed to linguistic markedness.
