This thesis features a synchronic research of the short-term adverbs in modern Chinese, combining form and meaning, qualitative and quantitative, synchronic and diachronic. Three case studies are presented in the thesis for demonstration. The entire content of this paper is divided into the following four aspects.First,this thesis, based on previous research, defines"short-term"in a clearer way, categorizing it into"time-point ST"and"time-length ST". This thesis also classifies STS adverbs into three categories and demonstrates their differences in syntactic distribution.Second,the thesis studies the similarities and differences of the"dunshi"(顿时)and"like"(立刻) quantitatively and qualitatively . From the syntactic function of view, "dusnhi" and li ke" is an adverb of time mobility. They are different both in the control, condition, time and other aspects of physical characteristics from Semantic features.Third, the thesis analyses "xuanji" (旋即)and "mashang" (马上)and reveals its syntactic features, semantic features, using of comparison methods. While the body features and analysis from the last level caused the difference.Fourth, We has been ignored on the previous "zhuanyan(转眼)"and"zhuanlian(转脸)"for special studies, from various angles to inspect them.
