The concept of revenge , is that as a person or a group being hurt or his/their interests , honor or pride being injured, his/their relatives, friends, other people unrelated to acts of vengeance. Therefore, revenge must be an event. The Motif of Revenge works in modern Chinese literature must be covered by the narrative works.Modern Chinese Literature in the motif of revenge is produced in the modern context of the culture. Chinese modernity is being implanted and presents "the Conflict of Traditional and Modern" and " the conflict of West and China", and both of the conflicts exists internal relations and mutually-contradictory. Such a context of the culture determines the works of modern Chinese literature is not only different with ancient literature but also with Western literature in the similar motif.The works of the revenge motif in modern Chinese literature can be divided into three groups: individual revenge, social revenge, and cultural revenge. From the perspective of what cultural connotation the works reflects, we can also do further classification: the first, beginning from the new cultural movement to the 1930s, to Lu Xun's Sword Forging as the representative of the revenge motif is reflected in the enthusiastic call of modernity, the acclamation of modern culture and strongly criticizing the traditional culture; from mid-1930s to mid-1940s, to Cao Yu's Wilderness as the representative, the writers re-saw the positive force of traditional Chinese culture. These works successfully reflected the perplexity in the hero's deep heart of the story of revenge in the crack of traditional and modern cultures; from mid-1940 later, with Wang Zengqi's Revenge as the representative, the writers found a meeting point in the traditional culture and modern Western cultures, what reflected the people's ideals of peace and stability.From the horizontal perspective, the fundamental nature of the Revenge Motif in Modern Chinese Literature is to question the humanity in the life of the very environment, in order to explore the value and meanings of life. It includes the following two aspects: first, the importance of individual lives; second, explore the humanity in a living desperate state.From the vertical perspective, the development of the Revenge Motif in Modern Chinese Literature presents as Hegel's"Three-in-One Pattern". The first stage is a thesis, the second stage is the antithesis, and the third stage, to the synthesis.
