This thesis is divided into four parts:In the first part, we will look into the causes about Liu Yong's frustractioinof his official career. The analyses are as fowllows: the differences of aestheticpreference between the aristocratic men of letters and Liu Yong. The feelings andsexual passions expressed in Liu Yong's poems are contradictory with the moralprinciples of the Confucianists and with the politics moral requirements to eachman who wants to participate in government and political affairs.In the second part, we will make a thorugh inquiry about Liu Yong's cul-tural personality and delineate the unique cultural style of Liu Yong's in chineseancient literature history.In the third part, three kinds of different consciousness toward time and lifeconveyed in LiuYong's poems along the time sequence are discussed. That is,the consciousness of prizing the young life he possesses today and of seeking a-musement as soon as possible and of gaining pleasure and fredom which life aspi-rations come ture in many ispects as well. Its frivolous and self-indulgent defectdid not prevent it from being the reflection about a more thriving and prosperioussociety atmosphere. The next, the subject realizes his life consume in vain, heclears up the poitic authority negatively and then changes his direction to expresshis own feelings and sexual passions. The third is the expressination of grievingover his eldly deplorable state in the late fall.The fourth part is mainly involved with the inheritance from Song Yu's tra-dition.
