The paper mainly discusses the economic devolopmen t and poll tical democra tiza tion of Thailand in 1970s and 1980s It is made up of five parts. Part one is an overview of the background of the democra tic event in october 1973, Including the economic development froml932 to the early 1970s , rapidly gre wing middle class and the evolution of autocracy Part two contains the developing process of the deuiocra tic event. Part three is concerned wi th the historic position and influence of the democratic event, compared with the revolution of ]932 it gives prominence to the change of ideology in Thailand. Part four makes an discussion on the economic development and poll tical democratization. After the demo era tic even r. the in teres t gro ups of bourgeoisie were thriving, iziil I tary regime was declining, the resul t was the establishment of party poll tics.
