| This thesis, which takes the Russian formalist literary theory.. English and American 揘ew criticism?theory as theoretical background, makes a new explanation on the transforming process to modernism of Chinese literature, and on the base of that it also revalues Wen Yi-Duo抯 poet theory and the trend of Aestheticism which had influenced him greatly. This thesis is divided into 5 parts. Part I 揟he foreword.?Here in this part the author calls in question to the literary history of today抯 main trend, and says that the transforming process of Chinese literature to modernism which had been finished in the first 10 years should be divided into 3 steps: (1) the language revolution of Hu shih; (2) the literature practice of Lu-xun; (3) the theoretical consciousness of Wen Yi-Duo. Part II : ?Revalue: Wen Yi-duo抯 poet theory and Chinese literary moderi~uzation .?This part makes a full explanation for the 3 steps of Chinese literary transformation to modernization. The author thinks that the language revolution the main leader Qf which was Hu shih had not only consistently combined together the revolution of language and literature, but also had paid enough attention to the specificity of 搇iterary language?is the beginning of Chinese modern literature. And the works of Lu-xun, from literary language to literary structure had greatly pushed forward the progress to modernization of Chinese literature. For the third step, the article first discusses the literary concepts such as 搕he literary concept of humanity ? 搕he literary concept of serving life?and 搕he literary concept of expressing oneself? and concluded that these kinds of concept are not able to represent the modem consciousness of literary concept. The job of theory consciousness was finished by Wen Yi-duo. PartIll : 揅haracter analysis: the modem character of Wen Yi-duo抯 poet theory?The article concluded that the modernity of Wen Yi-duo抯 poet theory lies in: (1) it puts enough attention to the Chinese characteristics while it makes clear division about practical language and poet language in language concept;(2)as the concept of form is concerned, in on aspect it has reached the height of formal ontology, in another aspect it has the dualistic theory of content & form replaced by the momsm of form and in the other aspect it also paid attention to the 搃mplications?behind the form; (3) as we look through it concrete theory ,it shows superiority in the comparison with it demonstrated nationalism in the comparison with international poet theory. So Wen Yi-duo抯 poet theory could be regarded as the third step of the Chinese literary transforming process to modernization. Part LV: 揝ource probe: Aestheticism and Wen Yi-duo?s poet theory?This part talks about the influence of the western Aestheticism on the poet theory of Weh Yi-duo. It symbolized in that:(i )the literary concept of 揂rt for Art?had prevented Wen Yi-duo抯 poet theory from being interrupted by the outer actual factors;(2) the esteem devoted to artistic beauty by Keats and his followers led Wen Yi-duo to pay attention to the value of the art itself;(3)the emphasis on artistic form by Kant, Wilde and their followers had finally helped Wen Yi-duo to realize his formalist poet theory.
