Horkheimer's Critical Theory

Horkheimer was the originator of the Frankfurt School. He set a line for this school with his critical theory and influenced the followers. Though he thought his theory is materialism, he turned out to be an idealist. His refusing to consider metaphysics caused this change. For the same reason, his was a metaphysician in spite of the fact that he described himself as a dialectical materialism. But he still did a lot to defend Marxism, and his criticize to capitalism was helpful. He helped to found the Western Marxism.
