Ling Shuhua Novels

Ling Shuhua was a famous woman writer in the history of Chinese Modern Literature. She published her first novel in 1924 and the last one in 1984. The time she spended on novel writing lasted 60 years. The thesis mainly discusses her novels written in the 20-30's.The object of discussion is her novel collections: The Temper of Flower, Woman and Little Brothers. At first, Ling distinguished herself in the literature circles with female subject. Most of Ling's contemporary women writers paid attention to female depress. struggled for woman's independence. Compared with them, Ling attach importance to revealing their numbness resulted from traditional female consciousness, expressing the difficult roads of new life for new woman. Ling's novel writing has certain unique style at that time. In 1927, Ling started to write childish subject. Begin with children vision, her novels demonstrated naive, lifely spirit of children. Such works were not much in the literature circles at that time. Ling's novels reached certain level in the arts through consciously study from famous foreign short novel writers such as Chekhov and Mansfield. The thesis intends to discuss theme, subject and artistic feature of Ling抯 novel writing. With respect to theme and subject, it both discuss their originality and observe them in the literature history (mainly among contemporary women Writers? works). In respects of artistic feature, it both discuss four main features and explore the artistic origin. In addition to the short introduction and conclusion, the thesis consists of two parts: I. The theme and subject of Ling's novels. II~. The artistic feature of Ling's novels. As the appendix, the short course of Ling's novel writing's chronological table is necessary supplement to the thesis. The aim is to straighten out Ling's novel writint road and it's changing.
