Zhang Wentian The Cultural Ideology

Zhang Wentian was an outstanding Communist revolutionist and theorist. He devoted his life to the course of socialist revolution an socialist construction. Besides, he made a great contribution to the forming of Mao Zedong Thought. He also contributed to the development of modern culture history. This dissertation analyses the characteristic of his cultural thought, including three parts.The first part deals with his early cultural thought, including his dialectical Chinese and Western standpoint, the Old and New viewpoint and the contribution to the propagating of Marxism in China. In the New Culture Movement, he participated in the discussing of the connections between traditional culture and New culture. He viewed that the traditional culture was valuable, so scholars should reorganize the national heritage and translate western works systematically. He advanced that world foresight and scientific opinion. These views have been insight. In his early time, he also accepted and disseminated Marxism. He once propagated the Communist Manifesto.The second part analyses his new democracy cultural thought. As a revolutionist, he advanced a new theory about culture. His national, democratic, scientific and popular new cultural standpoint was all-side and systematic. This part mainly elucidates the development of his new democracy cultural thought and its intension, reflecting the fight against "Left"closed-doorism. In addition, Zhang Wentian's new democracy cultural thought provided an abundant resource for the developing of Deng Xiaoping Theory.The third part talks about his thought of literature and history. He believed the literature should subsidize the development of society. So the development of culture need versatile literature thought. And the history theory should be of advantage to society situation. Everyone should seek truth from history.Scholars began to study Zhang Wentian'thought from 1980s.So the study is still in a gathering material stage at present. 2000 was the 100th anniversary of formal birthday of Zhang Wentian. It sets off a new upsurge of researching into Zhang Wentian's thought. But the achievements in his cultural theory still need develop indepth. This dissertation just talks about this aspect. And I hope I can do something for the study of this great theorist.
